Michael Shulman has been the Director of Publishing and Film for Magnum Photos since 2002. where he has edited and been responsible for placing photography and clearing rights for book covers, and for set design and special features for feature films and documentaries. Book projects include co-editing “The Beat Scene” and “Cuba 1959”, both featuring the work of Magnum photographer Burt Glinn, and “American Cool”, a career retrospective of Magnum photographer Dennis Stock. He is currently working on an expanded edition of the seminal “Police Work” by Magnum photographer Leonard Freed, coming in 2020. He has worked extensively on the documentary film series “Vietnam” by Ken Burns and Lyn Novick, the Miles Davis documentary “Birth of the Cool”, and “Hitchock/Truffaut”, among many others. He has collaborated with Bob Dylan’s management for the artwork for his 2009 album “Together Through Life” and for Jackson Browne’s “Standing in the Breach” He has worked in the photo industry since 1993. Michael is a native New Yorker, now living in Washington Heights.
